Ethnography Reflection

It is important to study the connections between writing, culture, and language becuase they all connect to each other. Without one we could not fully understand the other, language and writing make up a culture. Most culture have their own language and without writing language would be forgotten. With ethnographic research you can learn about different cultures and the people that make them up. You can study and observe how the culture functions in society and the problems it may have with connecting to other cultures. We can learn to look at a culture objectively so that we don't view the culture with bias. Ethnographic research helps people to understand more about a culture that they don't know anything about. I think the daybook entry that helped the most was the one where we were asked to think about what perspective or approach we wanted to take with our paper. I bagan writing the paper from a non objective stand point, but it became difficult when trying to work in observations. Also I thought that if I added in some of the things I know personally from the culture, then it would work better and be a littler easier to word. My research was different for this project, normally I just google some stuff or read some books, but for this project I had to observe and interview which was a little difficult at first. I wasn't sure what I was doing and didn't want to go to a random person and ask if I could interview them. It was a bit more time consuming which was not all that great considering the short amount of time we had on the paper. I felt like there was so much side work to be done that there wasn't much time to consider what to add or put into the paper. There was multiple things to do and by the time I got to writing the paper I didn't know where to begin. The research papers I have done in the past were much easier to do because all you had to do was research. I think adding in interviews and observations is great to learn about a culture, but it does make the process of writing a bit more complicated. If I were going to write this paper into another genre it would be the same as my literacy project, a graphic novel, or any other form of genre that brings together writing and art.
